My Relationship with Technology

Technology has grown tremendously throughout the years and has been taken to the next level it feels since the time I started using technology to now. We use technology in everyday life. Nowadays in our society it has been around for centuries, to me it has honestly become scary with how much not just myself but everybody in the world uses technology. You almost physically can't stay away from technology nowadays because almost everything that you need is online. I have definitely fell into a spiral with my use of technology to the point where I can say I fully depend on it. I can't go long periods of time without checking social media if I am not distracted by a family dinner or if I am at lacrosse practices, games, meetings, and etc.

With all this technology growth and innovation we have seen not just the growth but as well as the creation and the work of artificial intelligence in today's generation. Some forms of artificial intelligence that we see nowadays are the Tesla cars, these self-driving cars have blown up in the motor vehicle industry with the creation of more self driving cars from companies such as Nissan, Ford and multiple more motor vehicle industries/companies. We have also seen the growth of artificial intelligence in technologies such as phones and for instance the Iphone and the use of Siri. Apple created Siri in 2011 just in time for the Iphone 4s release. Apple created Siri as a virtual assistant so that with a click of a button you can speak into your phone and it will do commands such as surf the internet for what you have asked them to search for, as well as being able to call whomever' name you say in the voice command. Siri has more features than you can ever think of with the progress of the Apple Iphone.
When talking about technology and my connections to it I can say that I use my phone way too much in everyday life but most the time I am doing it, it is for positive reasons such as reaching out to my family and friends since I am living in a different country than them while I am away at school especially for over half of the year. Another positive thing that I do with my technology is my homework on my laptop which I have open for over half of everyday either doing my homework or watching film from practice or from what my coaches have sent me. I can confidently say that a lot of times I am using technology it is for a positive use but I am definitely using technology an aggressive amount. Some of the bad sources of technology I use are not necessarily bad but it is just not of productive use. Some of that technology time being watching Netflix/Youtube, video games, and online shopping.

There will always be the argument about either how terrible technology is for you and you should try your hardest to stay off social media and stay away from technology. However their will always be an argument against that saying how technology and social media can be used for positive use and that you are in control of making your use of technology negative because you are not doing anything productive with it. We are at the point in life where technology is a key necessity in life nowadays with everything being accessible online, you can literally have an online doctors appointment nowadays and this is the work of artificial intelligence taking over society and that is what the governments want.

Gatekeeping (reaction)

Gatekeeping is something that I can truly say that I have little information on what it really is and what it does. Listening to this presentation I feel that my knowledge on gatekeeping has grown. Gatekeeping is the product of letting certain types of media through the gate. We see this with some website online that have locks on certain things and on others you a free to read and research on the website. After today's presentations i learned that internet gatekeeping refers to the act of controlling or limiting access to information on the internet. This can be done by individuals, groups, or organizations, and can take many forms, such as blocking certain websites, censoring content, or manipulating search results. Gatekeeping can be used to protect against the spread of harmful or illegal content, but it can also be used to suppress information and limit freedom of expression.

The Age of "AI"

There are many potential benefits to the development of more complex artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning. For example, these technologies can be used to automate many tedious meaning little and time-consuming tasks, freeing up us as humans to focus on more interesting and creative work that we need in this world nowadays. They can also be used to analyze large amounts of data and make predictions or decisions based on that data, which can help to improve various industries such as healthcare, finance, and transportation. Additionally, AI and machine learning can be used to develop new technologies and products that can improve people's lives.
We also see that there are also potential drawbacks to the increased use of AI and machine learning. One major concern is the issue of privacy. As these technologies become more advanced and are used in more areas of our lives, there is a risk that personal information could be collected and used in ways that people do not expect or want. This could lead to invasions of privacy and other negative consequences. Another potential concern is the impact of AI and machine learning on national security. Finally, the increased use of AI and machine learning could also have implications for online security and identity theft. As more and more of our personal information is stored and processed by these technologies, there is a risk that it could be accessed by hackers or other malicious actors. This could lead to identity theft and other cyber crimes, which could have serious consequences for individuals and organizations.
One potential downside of the increased use of AI and machine learning is that it could lead to a "dehumanizing" effect. As these technologies become more advanced and are used in more areas of our lives, there is a risk that they could replace or reduce the need for human labor in many industries. This could lead to job losses and other negative economic consequences, as well as a feeling of disconnection or alienation among individuals. Another about AI is that, the reliance on AI and machine learning could lead to a loss of human skills and knowledge, as people become less reliant on their own abilities and more reliant on technology. This could lead to long-term negative effects on society and the economy.

Disinformation

Disinformation is the act of deliberately misleading someone we see his a lot in the governments and media with higher power. A lot of times disinformation gets confused with misinformation but the difference between the two is that disinformation is the act that you are deliberately lying just to mislead, and when you look at misinformation that is the mistake that someone has made when giving information to someone they are not deliberately misleading this person. When someone has been given disinformation to deliberately ruin someones life it could really be life changing to that person and people around this person. Another thing about disinformation is that it can cause problems that do not need to happen or should have never been brought upon in the first place. We have heard about stories of disinformation that is given between the countries sometimes for their own good but most of the time as a trap.

You can almost but the disinformation meaning under the term of "evil use" as you can use it to legitimately ruin somebody's life just by given someone the wrong information about someone and all of a sudden the government is at that person's door arresting them for the false information that was given on someone. Disinformation has been used for centuries and usually as a tactic or just generally used by someone that is known for being a pathological liar or just even a bad person overall. Disinformation can effect people in crime scenes where they can easily be blamed for false murder if someone had the smallest bit of something on them but the people were given disinformation on the case that they did not know of but all of a sudden that person was framed and falsely put in prison. This has been seen in multiple trials through centuries in courts throughout the world.
Disinformation is definitely something that is used for power nowadays with the society that we live in with war as the main talk and their is a lot of disinformation and good source information in the talks. A way that we have seen disinformation used against America was when the Soviet Union was saying that the United States had invented AIDS. This was never talked about until the 1980's when the united states came out with the disinformation on the case.
Sometimes people may try to match whistle blowing with disinformation but they are absolutely total different things whistle blowing has nothing to do with giving deliberately wrong information whistle blowing wants to reveal the truth about something that absolutely no one knows about but on the other hand they want to know about this info such as the Edward Snowden case. Disinformation affects a lot of people around the world especially with social media in this generation it is so easy for someone to put out information to deliberately cause something wrong to happen by misleading people. Misleading is very wrong when it comes to reality and misleading one or multiple people at a time because that person known as the miss leader might feel great about what they are doing but when the people being mislead find out they freak out and end up very angry and upset.

Privacy On and Offline

I know for a fact that my information is all around for the government to look at and go through. I honestly think that it is absurd how the government can see the text messages between my family and I as well as they have search engines that collect all my data that I have searched. I should be comfortable with searching up data and information online instead of feeling that I am literally being tracked the whole time I am searching for things because the government wants to have all your info so that they think they have an understanding of you as a person without actually knowing you.

While watching the Catherine Crump Ted Talk I learned some very intriguing and disturbing things that the government can do. By now we all know the government has been tacking us humans our entire lives. Something very disturbing that I heard Catherine talk about was how the government can use a device which is called the stingray to be able to track what phones are in the house so that they can track who the people in the house are at once or at the times that they want to check who is in the house.
I believe that the government should have access to these files but limited access and not towards the point where they are just stalking us but just making sure that we are not making any critical bad decisions but at the same time it just makes me feel that the government is just doing this for fun so that they can judge people on what they do on social media and etc.
To protect our selves from having the government and hackers invading our privacy is create fake emails. What I mean by this is lots of times when people are shopping online or even in store they ask for your email and this is a perfect time to use the fake email because you can now use that for your spam mail. You can also use this email for school purposes if you don't want to use your real email on google chrome or safari because your email is not fully protected under those two users which means they may have access to your mail. Another way to keep your media private is to make all your social media accounts private or even just delete them, my only downfall of saying to delete it is that you never know even if its deleted someone could still have a hold of it.

Facebook Through The Lens of Diffusion Theory

Facebook was created  by Mark Zuckerberg and his group of friends from he University of Harvard. Facebook was created in 2004 the platform was made so that you couldn't make friends and even find someone who has the same interests and qualities that you have in your bio as well. Facebook had its highs in the early 2000's with almost everybody in the world using it to get in touch with friends and family as well as making and finding new friends.

Facebook's biggest popularity boost was in 2012 and 2019 was the year were it was at the lowest use, since the 2019 drop its users has grown a slight amount but stayed steadily low for the bast 3 years. Facebook has had lots of positive and negative feedback throughout the years lots of people didn't feel safe. When it comes to diffusion theory there are 5 different categories that we look at which track the the media use of this innovation which in this case would be Facebook.

1.Pioneers- This is the group that you don't have to do much if any at all forcing to use your product/media this is the group who is wanting to go aboard with it, still sitting in the experimental stage.

2.Early Adopters- When looking at this group you can compare it very well to the first group because these people are welcomed to the thought and change for the better and are all for the idea of change. this is where we will see the uptake of Facebook begin.

3. Early Majority- This is the group where we will see success for them to move to the product/media when they see that a change for the good is being made.

4.Late Majority- This is the group who is less likely to change due to them being more old school. This group will really need to see something significant in order to make the change over.

5.Laggards- This is the group were change is not supported if what's working for them at the moment is fine they will say that change is unnecessary and that there is no need for change to happen.

Anti-War

Nowadays, the world is very political this is one of the main reasons why we do not hear many anti-war voices standing up and talking for what they think is right. Countries across the world like to stay neutral as possible so that they do not make the wrong decision by messing a relationship with another country and maybe cause war in between or at least they will say to the public that they are neutral. Both of these websites seem to be groups of individuals who want to have their own voice, which is different from the governments.

These groups have strong beliefs into what they believe is true to be the American way of life. The American conservative seems to stand for American being strong and independent. They have the belief to care about American’s first and don’t feel there is a need to unite the world and support other countries around the world. Another reason why we do not hear about anti-war voices often times is because they speak upon and against the government. These anti-war groups and people know the risk that they are taking when they talk against the government so they do not want to take such a high risk in something happening to them if they spoke against their government. These anti-war voices in my opinion need to speak up more especially with what is going on in the world at the moment with the craziness that is going with all the war talk and the Presidential situation.
